Are vertical radiators effective?
Vertical radiators can be highly effective, but some are better than others. Always consider the output, quoted in either watts or BTUs, to accurately and easily compare vertical radiators against horizontal designs, finding an equivalent output for the same heating requirements. With performance unrelated to orientation, vertical radiators are a great way of getting the heat you need into a room that doesn’t have that much wall space. Some vertical radiators can be very powerful while fitting on the narrowest of walls, leaving much-needed space free for furniture.
Are vertical radiators better than horizontal?
Vertical radiators aren’t strictly better than horizontal radiators – they’re just suited for different spaces. Our designer vertical radiators are ideal for making great use of a minimum amount of
wall space, such as rooms where the walls are taken up with furniture and other fixtures and fittings. Standard horizontal heating solutions are more often used on wider walls or beneath
windows.
Do vertical radiators need more pressure?
Vertical radiators don’t generally require more pressure to work than horizontal radiators, so swapping an existing horizontal design for a vertical radiator shouldn’t prove a problem. Most central heating boilers and pumps are sized to allow an upsizing of the heating system when an additional or larger radiator needs to be added. If you’re unsure whether a vertical radiator will

What spaces are vertical radiators suitable for?
As vertical radiators take up less wall space, they’re ideal for walls that may not be suitable for other uses. We recommend placing contemporary vertical radiators in dead space – behind
doors, on slim strips of wall, or where wall space is limited such as in kitchens with a lot of cabinets and worktops.
Where should I install a vertical radiator ?
You receive the most benefit from choosing a vertical radiator when you take advantage of its narrow profile, locating it on walls that are not suitable for other fixtures and fittings.
It’s also worth considering vertical radiators where the valves can be located underneath, rather than to the side. This way you can achieve a neater installation and maximise the available wall space further with a larger design.
Do vertical radiators take longer to heat up?
Vertical radiators should not take longer to heat up than conventional horizontal radiators. Many vertical radiators should be supplied with an internal diverter to send the water rapidly through the entire body, helping it generate heat quickly.
Aluminium is also a popular material for vertical radiators as will react quickly when the central heating system comes on, rapidly transferring heat out into the room.
