Johanne Cinier
Cinier has been creating distinctive designer radiators in the south of France since 1975. Alongside their unusual use of natural stone, one of the things that really sets the collection apart is the artwork.
Many of Cinier’s Olycal Stone radiators are hand-painted by artist Johanne Cinier. We spoke to Johanne at her studio in Sète to find out more about her background, her inspiration and how she came to turn radiators into works of art.
Johanne studied fine art before moving to Paris to work in fashion design. After returning to Sète, she focused on painting and began creating large scale canvases from her studio.
Her father Michel, who founded Cinier, and twin brother Stéphane saw her canvases and had an idea.
Johanne started with three designs and they quickly became part of the Cinier collection.
“When I came back to Sète, I started painting on large canvases. My twin brother Stéphane and my father Michel saw them and had the idea to create unique designs for radiators.”

The Olycal Stone radiator becomes the canvas for Johanne’s work. Made from natural stone sourced from the Pyrenees, her artwork is created directly onto the stone radiator using raw materials and pigments that can withstand heat.
Johanne’s work is predominantly abstract, with designs intended to work alongside different interiors, furniture and artwork. Each radiator is hand-painted, making it as much a piece of art for the room as a source of heat.
