Bristol is known for its eclectic mix of historic architecture, from grand Regency villas in Clifton to Byzantine-style red brick factories, and the colour-splashed terraces of Totterdown.

Bristol: Where original features meet bold design choices, and style-conscious customers want designer radiators to match.

Ella Block is our brilliant and design-savvy Sales Consultant based in the Bristol showroom. She’s been part of the team since July 2024, and knows exactly how to help people find the right radiator styles to complement Bristol’s mix of old and new, classic and contemporary.

With a fantastic eye for colour and interiors, and her passion for style, Ella loves talking through design schemes with customers and helping them imagine how a designer radiator will look in its real setting – right down to the finish and placement.

“Our Bristol customers love statement radiators, so I often find myself recommending the Horseshoe Cubed. It has a great output due to the large surface area, which works well in the large spaces often found in Bristol properties. I’m also a huge fan of Farrow and Ball paint matches, especially the Calke Green on display in the showroom – it’s especially chic.”

Read on to get the lowdown from Ella on Bristol’s homes, radiator style trends, and what people are really looking for when they visit our showroom…

Bristol homes are full of personality, and I love hearing about people’s projects. You get such a mix of architecture here, which means we can get really creative with what we recommend.

Bristol is known for its creativity and character. How does that shape the way people think about interiors – and radiators?

There’s a real openness to design here, which makes the consulting process so fun because you can make really creative recommendations. People here see radiators as part of the interior design, not just a necessity. We get a lot of customers who want something a bit different – something that adds to the look of a room rather than blending in.

At the moment there’s a lot of interest in the more industrial finishes like our raw metal lacquers. These really stand out as statement pieces, as well as being versatile enough to fit with a variety of design schemes. It’s exciting to work with people who want to push the boundaries.

Bristol is famous for its historic architecture. How do you help customers find radiators for their period homes?

A lot of customers want to stay true to the character of their property. So we’ll guide them through our traditional radiator ranges, like cast iron styles, or steel columns that give a similar feel with a more modern twist. We help them find the right balance between staying in keeping with the house and getting the performance they need.

We also help customers pair traditional shapes with modern finishes or contemporary valves to balance style with performance. When done well, these can make a style statement and still feel authentic. I often recommend the Vintage – it’s a really elegant option that can work in properties of any period.

The radiator that gets the most attention from Bristol customers is definitely the Tuba Steel Column Bench in Pure Orange. It’s right in the showroom window and hard to miss. The colour really draws people in, but it also attracts a lot of attention for its amazing practicalities. It’s a great fit for kitchens or utility rooms. We’ve even had comments from customers saying their pets love it!

The colour itself – RAL 2004 – is a big hit. Quite a few people have ended up choosing other radiator models in the same shade after seeing it in person. It shows you how much colour can influence the decision once people see the finish up close and in person.

Bristol’s known for being a green city. Is sustainability a big factor for your customers?

Definitely. We get a lot of questions about radiator efficiency – especially from people with older homes, high ceilings, or single-glazed windows, who want to upgrade their heating without increasing their energy use.

Electric radiators are a popular option, particularly for homes in rural locations outside Bristol city, that aren’t on the gas grid. We also get a lot of interest in low water content models like our aluminium range, which work well with renewable systems like heat pumps or solar.

More people want to know where products are made, too. There’s a growing interest in European brands with strong environmental credentials, which is great to see.

What are your go-to radiator recommendations for different types of Bristol homes?

For Georgian homes like the ones you see in Clifton, a 3-column Emmeline or a Tuba steel column radiator works really well. The proportions suit the architecture and they add a lovely design detail to the space. We also help people work around design challenges like bay windows – our Bristol showroom has options like curved radiators and slimline profiles.

In modern flats or new builds, I often suggest something minimal but stylish, like the sleek Flat Panel or the vertical Tamara Tandem. They make the most of the space without feeling bulky.

For converted spaces in the centre of town – like old factories or listed buildings – people tend to go for more industrial finishes or something sculptural. The raw metal lacquers are popular, and radiators like the Cortina or Oslo always turn heads.

And for eco-homes, we usually look at low-temperature radiators that are suitable for heat pumps. The Strada is a great example – it’s efficient and looks really smart in any setting.
