Whether you’re thinking of fresh ideas for interior design or simply trying to work out how well the furniture you’ve got your eye on will fit in the room, some apps will help you with creating your mood boards and designs.
There are hundreds of interior design apps available, so do your research to find the one best suited to your needs. We’ve been playing with a few of the free apps and have found some we like.
Houzz
If you’re a fan of the Houzz website, you’ll love the Houzz app. You’ll get the same access to tutorials, as well as the ability to create an ideas book and shop for products. The app offers everything you can do on the website, but it’s on your tablet or phone so you can take it shopping with you!
Floor plan
If you want to create a simple 2D floor plan of your room, try the magicplan app. Once you’ve got the shape and dimensions of your room sorted, you can add essentials such as doors, windows, cupboards, plumbing, appliances and items of furniture, as well as, crucially, radiators.
You’d be surprised by how many floor plan apps there are that don’t include radiators, which could lead to costly interior design mistakes. Magicplan is simple, but it will give you a better idea of how your ideas will work in practice.
What colour to paint your wall
When you’re standing in the DIY shop looking at the huge range of colours available, it’s difficult to visualise what they’ll actually look like on your wall. OK, so you could take a few tester pots home, which will give you a better idea, but there’s an app available that will be a lot quicker and more comprehensive.
Using Dulux Visualizer, you choose the colour you’re interested in and take a photo of the room you’ll be using it in. The technology will then add that colour to the walls on your photo, enabling you to see what it will look like against your furniture, carpets, curtains, etc.
You can change the colours as many times as you like to quickly and effectively narrow your choices down to the one you like best.
Spirit level
Yes, you can download an app that’s a spirit level. We looked at the iHandy Level, which is as simple as using a real spirit level but has the added advantage of pinpoint accuracy, so you won’t even be a tenth of a degree on the skew. Brilliant for pedants!
Someone to do the work
If you don’t want to do it yourself or you need a little extra help with some of the more specialist tasks, download the TrustATrader app. Even when you’re on the move, you’ll be able to find traders who cover your area and see what their customers really think of them!
